NORWICH – The Chenango Greenway Conservancy will host “Race to the Face 5K Run/Walk and Mountain Goat Challenge, to be held Sunday, September 25, 2022 at noon.

The Race will begin in West Park, head west along West Main St. to the Wheeler Ave. entrance and parking for the Stone Quarry, and ascend the trail to the Face overlooking Norwich.

The first participant to reach the Face and ring the bell wins the Mountain Goat Challenge.

From the Face, participants will proceed through the quarry and wind back down gradual switchbacks to return to the Wheeler Ave. parking area and West Park. Prizes will be offered for the Mountain Goat Challenge and first person to complete the 5K course.

“This is a great opportunity to see the Stone Quarry Property and get familiar with the trails, especially for people who have never been to the overlook,” said Sharon Pelosi, Chairperson of the Chenango Greenway Conservancy.

The Chenango Greenway Conservancy is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) public charity organized in 2006 to develop a network of multiple use recreation trails in and around the City of Norwich.

The organization acquired the Stone Quarry property in December 2021 following an intense community fundraising effort, and is now developing plans to improve access and opportunities for outdoor recreation at the site.
