Published: September 7th, 2022

OXFORD– The Oxford Memorial Library’s “Oceans of Possibilities” 2022 Summer Reading Program went swimmingly this year. To encourage participation the library hosted Thursday morning story times, Friday afternoon movies, and a Kid’s Carnival which celebrated the end of the program with 89 children and adults attending.

A total of 24 kids signed up to participate in the Summer Program, and together they covered the kid’s room in 212 fish. Each fish represented one book read. The top reader who took home the grand prize was Vera Collins, who read 107 books.

Adult Summer Reading had 50 adults sign up with a total of over 240 books read. There was a drawing for a prize each week and a grand finale prize. The weekly prizes were coffee mugs. The Grand finale was a $50 gift certificate from Roma’s. Winners were: 1. Bill Jackson; 2. Deb Moore; 3. Susan Albright; 4. Ann Baier and the Grand Prize winner was Valerie Hughes.

Be sure to stop by the library to view the beautiful paintings we have on display by local artist, Dan Mosner. We have several of his works displayed in the children’s and young adult rooms.

We would like to welcome our newest staff member, Susan Pixley of Bainbridge, NY. Susan comes to us with an extensive background in training hospital staff in the use of medical records software. Susan will greet you with a warm smile and will help you find the book or item you are looking for or help you on the public access computer. We have a great staff of library clerks at the Oxford Memorial Library and encourage everyone to stop in and say “HI”.

The Library Board of Trustees will be meeting on Thursday, September 8 at 7:00pm in the library’s community room. The library is chartered by New York State as a school district library which means that we are chartered to serve the Oxford school district and that our budget and any trustees running for the position of library trustee goes to the voters when the school budget goes to the voters. We operate on the same school calendar as the school; July 1, 2022-June 30, 2023. We are looking forward to a great year at the library this year.

The Oxford Memorial Library is your home town community center for information and entertainment. A great place to meet friends and neighbors.
