OXFORD — When the tomatoes ripen, high summer is officially upon us, and the Oxford Farmers’ Market will be celebrating that moment with an abundance of tomatoes this Saturday, July 23, along with lots of other freshly harvested seasonal veggies, including (but not limited to) cucumbers, eggplant, summer squash, zucchini, kale, cabbage, lettuce, Swiss chard, carrots, beets and herbs.

Shoppers will also find delicious local meats and cheeses; fresh baked breads, pies, and cookies; locally-grown and milled grains and flours, granolas, crackers, and mixes made with local grains; local syrup and honey; jams, salsas, and pestos; local hard ciders; and artisan crafts, including hand-sewn kitchen items, artwork, cards, and hand-carved spoons. The Market is open from 9 a.m. to noon in Lafayette Park.

Singer, songwriter, and entertainer Jo Jo Russell will be performing in the Bandstand from 10 a.m. to noon. Russell's musical career was sparked in the early 60's when he was 12 and the drummer in his older brother's band, "The Peppertones," let him sit on his kit at a band rehearsal. His brother and the others struck up "In The Mood" by Glen Miller and Jo Jo was a drummer! Soon after, the Beatles came along and Jo Jo became a singing drummer.
