SHERBURNE – The Norwich pony league team defeated Sherburne 13-3 in six innings on Monday night. Norwich scored five runs in the fourth and four runs in the sixth to seal the deal.

Kaden Downey got Norwich on the board in the first inning after teammate Jackson Sastri got on with a walk and moved into scoring position after two passed balls. Anthony Pomares also drove in a run with an RBI single to put Norwich up 2-0. Pomares would not stop there as he finished with a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate with a total of four RBIs. Zack Parker also contributed in the second inning with an RBI double.

In the five-run fourth inning, Colin Olds and Pomares each drove in two runs while Downey drove in his second RBI of the day. Norwich made substitutions in the final two innings. Carmine Pastore entered the game in the sixth where he drove in two runs off a single. Norwich also scored two additional runs off a balk and an error.

Sherburne got on the board in the third inning after Thatcher Bugbee scored off an error. Carter Suspensky came in for Bugbee in the fifth and finished with two hits while teammate Trent Marinelli provided a single in the fourth. Sherburne scored their two final runs on a bases loaded walk and on a passed ball.

On the mound, Norwich’s Braden Reid pitched 4.1 innings with 88 pitches, allowing two runs on two hits, three walks, and struck out 10 batters in the win. Collin Reid finished the game in relief and helped make a crucial out to end the game after a passed ball got by Parker. Parker quickly grabbed it and threw it to Colin to get the batter out at home.

Norwich hopes to make-up a doubleheader against Cooperstown on Wednesday evening at home starting at 5 p.m.
