NORWICH – The Norwich High School Athletic Department and the Norwich track and field team celebrated a milestone, concluding its 2022 spring season. Senior Robyn Diehl was honored for breaking the Norwich girls’ pole vault record with 7’7’’ in 2021. She replaced Hannah Kilean’s best of 7’6’’ back in 2007 as well as Liz Eddy’s 7’6’’ in 2014.

Before Diehl added her name, Coach Shaun Horan shared a few thoughts. The event was recorded and uploaded on the Norwich Athletics YouTube page.

“The unique thing about pole vault athletes is that they have a special perseverance, especially with the vertical jump,” Coach Horan said in the video. “Every time they compete, they end in a failure and end in a total of three failures. The event requires so much discipline and commitment that you always have to deal with those disappointments to get to the success.”

Diehl also was named an STAC Track Division All-Star for her performance this 2022 season along with teammates Shakira Alexander, Jolei Powell, Annie Boland, and Briley Beckwith. For the boys, Holden Ryan, Richard Fuller, Makaio Sutton, Anthony Ragonese, and Gage Titsworth were also named STAC All-Stars.

Congratulations Robyn and to all the 2022 NHS track and field team.
