NORWICH– The Norwich Purple Tornado baseball team went even on the weekend. They lost to Oneonta 15-1 on Friday before defeating Seton Catholic 9-1 Saturday.

In Friday’s game, Zach Parker, Mike Hagen, Tristan Phagan, and Keegan Franklin each had hits in the loss.

Saturday, Norwich honored its seven seniors; Mike Hagen, Tristan Phagan, Keegan Franklin, Torin Lawrence, Evan Sylstra, Logan Ford, and Gehrig Sastri.

The Purple Tornado also defeated Seton 9-1 behind a strong outing for Trey Bates. Bates allowed two hits and just the one run off an error in the seventh, and struck out five batters.

Nick Ragonese led the Norwich offense with three hits including a triple in the second and would score the first run on a sac-fly by Franklin.

Evan Sylstra hit a 2-run home run in the third inning that went deep to left field by the tennis courts. Behind Sylsta, Mike Hagen and Ragonese each hit a single with bases loaded in the fifth to bring home two runs a piece.

With this win, Norwich clinches the section IV playoffs. The Tornado head to Sus Valley with a 4:30 p.m. start.
