Tornado avenge early season loss to Oneonta on Senior Night

NORWICH- There is no better time than on senior night to avenge an early season loss to a rival than on senior night.

That is precisely what the Norwich Purple Tornado boys’ basketball team did to the visiting Oneonta Yellowjackets on Wednesday night with Norwich coming away with a decisive 55-34 victory.

Norwich’s seniors showed up from opening tip all the way to the final buzzer as NHS seniors Torin Lawrence, Keegan Franklin and Logan Ford combined for 39 of Norwich’s points. Fellow senior Trent Wessels did not find his way into the score book, but his resolve on the hardwood was not forgotten about as he forced multiple Oneonta turnovers and hustled for the occasional loose basketball.

Oneonta’s Carter Mackey was the primary offensive force for the visiting Yellowjackets as he led his club with a game-high 15 points. Mackey was the focal point of Norwich’s defensive pressure- as every time Mackey possessed the basketball a Norwich defender was never too far away. Notably, Torin Lawrence drew two critical fouls on Mackey on back-to-back second quarter possessions to force the Oneonta big man to bench for the remainder of the half in order to avoid any additional foul trouble.

Norwich’s Logan Ford scored a team high 14 points in the victory. Ford found a majority of his scoring from cleaning up on the glass for easy put backs, in addition to crafty finishes around the rim. Torin Lawrence added in 13 points and Keegan Franklin pitched in 12 points.

Norwich (7-10) heads back to the hardwood on Wednesday February 9th when they travel to Conklin, NY to play the Susquehanna Valley Sabers with tip-off slated for 7:30 p.m.
