NORWICH – A huge 30 point second half led the visiting Oneonta Yellowjackets to a 54-37 victory over the Norwich Purple Tornado in girls’ varsity basketball action on Wednesday night.

Oneonta senior point guard Angeline McGraw scored 15 second half points along with classmate Emily Zeh scoring seven points over the two quarters to seal the deal over the host Tornado. In addition to Zeh’s offensive contributions, the 5 foot 11 inch center along with ‘Jacket power forward Abby Platt held down the paint on defense by rejecting several NHS layup attempts.

As for Norwich the Purple and White kept the game close in the first half as Oneonta took a 24-19 lead at the break with MacKenzie Hess leading the NHS offensive charge scoring 11 first half points. After the intermission, the Tornado just spun their tires and weren’t able to capitalize on numerous open looks at the rim ranging to a plethora of layups to a handful of treys.

“I thought there was a lot of times that we got good looks and just got out of control” said Norwich Head Coach Josh Bennett, “We got downhill to the basket pretty well… we just weren’t finishing around the rim. A lot of times we seemed to hurry (the shot) and put ourselves in bad positions.”
