EARLVILLE – The Earlville Opera House (EOH) is pleased to present Father-son duo Bruce Ward and Taiward Wider as they team up to present their holiday favorites in a folksinger’s style.

With tight vocal harmonies and widely varied backup on guitar, cello, bass, and hammered dulcimer, this show will delight with familiar favorites and songs you’ve never heard before.

Join us for this special holiday treat on Saturday, December 18, at 7 p.m. in the Arts Café for a festive fun time.

Bruce Ward began singing at age five in the church choir, and has done almost every kind of singing ever since. He has performed in folk music, in rock bands, church choirs, semi-professional choirs, solo recitals, dinner theater, musical comedy and opera, with groups including Auburn Civic Theater, Dryden Footlighters, the floor show at Ithaca’s College Spa Restaurant, Culvermere Resort in New Jersey, the Ithaca Opera, and the Sherburne Music Theater Society, and currently sings regularly with the Blue Parsley Boys, and with the Syracuse Vocal Ensemble.

 

After his sister gave him his first guitar at age 16 (thanks Nancy!) it was never far from his side through the rest of high school and college. Over the years Bruce’s musical tastes have encompassed many different types of folk music and song writers, but he now favors fingerstyle guitarists and songwriters with a keen sense of what it means to be a loving, contributing member of a community of people, be it friends, family, town, country, or the world.  He has performed with his guitar in several venues around central New York. Bruce lives with his wife Sarah Wider in Hamilton, where he organizes the Local Music Project, a semi-weekly performance series for accomplished non-professionals, and where he also operates an architectural practice in his spare time.

 

Taiward Wider has been playing cello for almost 20 years, and guitar for over ten. A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Taiward specializes in folk music. In particular, Klezmer and Yiddish music, Celtic, and Appalachian Old Time fiddle. They founded the Klezmer band Wandering Laughter which played at Club Passim and the Somerville Armory. Taiward is a regular member of the Sanctuary Boston band and helped produce some videos for Sanctuary Boston during the pandemic. They are also active in the New England contra dance scene and help to organize the Boston Gender Free Contra Dance.
