Sherburne-Earlville 81, Clinton 78 (2 OT)

SHERBURNE - Sherburne-Earlville struggled from the foul line throughout the game, but found the mark from the charity stripe enough times in the second overtime to hold off Clinton on Friday night.

The victory stopped a two-game losing streak for S-E (3-2), which did not reach 30 points in its previous outing.

"It was definitely a confidence booster," said S-E coach Kevin Vibbard. "It was our first league game, and we shot the ball well.  I was very happy with the offense, but we have to clean up some defensive stuff. It was a great high school basketball game. If they charged admission, it would have been worth the price of admission."

Brock Weidman exploded for a career-high 34 points to top all Marauders. Preston Eaves added 19 for S-E including five three-pointers. Eaves also pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds.

For the game, the Marauders made a season-best 10 3s.

Minisink Valley claims first Coach K duals title

NORWICH - Minisink Valley, the top ranked large school dual meet team in New York State, finished a perfect 5-0 on the day in dual meet matchups to claim the first Coach K Duals on Saturday.

Along the way, Norwich fell to Minisink Valley 56-16, but engaged in four spirited and competitive dual meets against Greene-Oxford, Sidney, Canastota, and Dryden.

Norwich claimed a comfortable 46-24 victory over Dryden, but lost to the other three opponents with each of those three matchups settled on the final wrestling match of the dual.

"I was hoping to go 3-2 or 4-1, that was my outlook before it started," said Norwich coach Bob Hagenbuch. "Three of those losses came down to one match…we were hoping for a better performance on Coach K's special day."

Prior to the tournament, Norwich also renamed it wrestling room in honor of Don Kovalchik, for whom the tournament was named.

"We had the sign covered," Hagenbuch said. "Coach didn't know we would dedicate the wrestling room, so that part was a surprise. We had him pull  the cover off the sign, and he was shocked and surprised (to see it was renamed in his honor)."

Norwich returns to the mat Thursday when it hosts Chenango Valley.
