CHENANGO COUNTY — The annual event aimed at promoting support of local businesses will return this weekend. Small Business Saturday is taking place county-wide on Saturday, November 27.

“Small Business Saturday is a way to remind people about supporting local. Shopping local, supporting local,” said Commerce Chenango CEO and President Kerri Green. “It’s a way to make sure that some of that money you’re spending this holiday season, and really throughout the year but especially through the holidays, that you’re really remembering your local business owners as well.”

Small Business Saturday is a national event sponsored by American Express and the Small Business Association, according to Green.

“It’s a national thing,” said Green. “It’s co-headed by the American Express and SBA.gov. And then each of the chambers throughout the country, really, choose to support it and promote it, and it kind of turns into an each community thing. Everybody does it a little bit differently.”

“It’s a county thing for us, not just for Norwich. So we’re promoting the entire county. You know, take a look at your municipalities, take a look at your local businesses, and make sure you’re supporting them as well this year,” she added.
