SHERBURNE – Join Friends of Rogers guest speaker David Moyer for "Prehistoric Occupations of the Chenango Valley: Archaeological Excavations at Rogers Center."

This Lecture will be in the Bird Cabin at Rogers Center on Tuesday, November 23rd at 6 pm.

The Talk will incorporate archaeological sites from within Chenango County dating from the Ice Age through the era of European contact, focusing on the results of archaeological excavations conducted at Rogers Center as part of the village water system project.

Attendees are encouraged to bring artifacts for identification and discussion. This program is FREE to attend and is brought to you by the Otis Thompson Foundation. Registration is required and masks will be worn indoors. Please register by emailing info@friendsofrogers.org.

David Moyer is currently the Vice President of the New York State Archaeological Association and also serves as director of the Roland B. Hill Memorial Museum of Archaeology in Otego, NY, which is operated by the Upper Susquehanna Chapter, NYSAA. He is a Registered Professional Archaeologist and is owner and principal investigator of Birchwood Archaeological Services, Inc. , a cultural resources consulting company located in Gilbertsville, NY.

David completed his bachelors degree in Anthropology from Binghamton University and received an MA in Anthropology from the University of Montana. He also currently serves on the board of directors for the Susquehanna River Archaeological Center (SRAC) in Waverly, NY and has written many archaeological reports, journal articles and conference papers. 

Rogers Center is operated by Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center, Inc., a nonprofit organization that offers educational programs for people of all ages. Currently the trails are open dawn to dusk, and the restrooms are open daily 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Visitor Center remains temporarily closed at this time.
