NORWICH — Recently appointed Youth Bureau Director Anthony Testani has discovered a new possibility for bringing pickleball courts to Norwich. His idea, which he presented at Tuesday’s joint committee meeting, is to use the Weiler Park ice skating rink, located on Borden Avenue, as pickleball courts in the summer.

“The plan is to talk with some other companies that do tennis courts and resurfacing and things like that and see if we can get something that will sustain the winter I guess, the ice and stuff. So we would paint it, we would prep it, paint it, and put the lines down for pickleball, and in the wintertime flood it with water so we can still skate on it,” said Testani. “We’re hoping if we can get the surface prepped and prepared at a reasonable cost, that’s what we’d like to do.”

According to Testani, there are two groups of residents who have been interested in establishing pickleball courts in the city for some time. He said he met with a group of them and had them check out the rink as a possible option.
