Norwich Volleyball Digs Deep To Beat Vestal

Norwich 3, Vestal 2

NORWICH - With its seven-game winning streak on the line, Norwich's volleyball team dug deep in a five-set victory over Vestal on Tuesday.

Down two sets to none, the Tornado used superior play at the net to rally past the previously once-beaten Golden Bears, 21-25, 25-27, 25-12, 25-16, 25-23.

Lauren Squires had a monster night at the net for the Purple Tornado (8-1).  Squires had a season-high 31 kills - a match total that may approach team-record heights -to go with four stuff blocks and six aces.

Squires' primary setter, Maddy Morris, topped 20 assists again finishing with 21, and Madisyn Ryan added 13 assists in the victory.

Miranda Cole contributed six kills and four digs for Norwich, which hosts Windsor on Thursday.

Unadilla Valley 3, Harpursville/Afton 0

NEW BERLIN - Unadilla Valley celebrated its senior recognition night with a three-game sweep of Harpursville-Afton on Tuesday.

The Storm rolled to a 25-16, 25-23, 25-22 victory over the Bears to extend their record to 7-1 on the season.

Bella Jones had five aces for UV, Shannon Kelly contributed four aces and six digs, and Kate Conway contributed another all-around effort with three kills, five digs, and four assists.

UV plays at Greene on Friday.

OXFORD - Oxford was able to display the depth of its roster Tuesday night sweeping Sidney in three games, 25-6, 25-9, 25-15.

Madalyn Barrows had 12 kills and Mallory Olsen-Nichols finished with eight assists and eight aces.

Olsen-Nichols is typically the Blackhawks' primary setter, but head coach Kim Martin said Ava Benjamin was inserted into the primary setter role in the final set.

Benjamin set up nine Oxford aces in the final set finishing the match with nine assists and six aces.

Oxford hosts Bainbridge-Guilford on Thursday.

In the third match we decided to let Mallory take a break from setting and we brought in next year's setter, Ava Benjamin. Ava did a great job setting up her teammates for 9 kills.  Thursday will be our Senior Night honoring our only senior, Mallory Olsen-Nichols.  

 

Delhi 3, Greene 0

GREENE - Delhi was strong at the net and strong on the defensive side as it defeated Greene in three sets on Tuesday, 25-10, 25-9, 25-10.

Vidya Samudral had four kills and four blocks for Delhi, and Sammie White served a team-high six aces to lead the Bulldogs.

Dayani Lora had two aces for Greene, and Krystan Cudney totaled three digs.
