Deposit-Hancock 38, Bainbridge-Guilford 28

BAINBRIDGE - About a two-minute span of the third quarter turned B-G's winning hopes on its ear in Friday's loss to Deposit Hancock.

Deposit-Hancock completed a prolific 22-point outburst over a two-minute span of the third quarter. It turned a 14-6 deficit into a two-touchdown lead.

On a third-and-long, Deposit-Hancock completed a long pass that led to a seven-yard TD drawing the clubs even at 14.

On the ensuing kickoff, the Bobcats failed to handle the boot, and Deposit-Hancock recovered deep in Bobcats territory. On the next play, Deposit-Hancock scored on a 12-yard run giving it the lead.

B-G (1-3) did field the next kickoff, but fumbled the ball away two plays later, which was returned for a 27-yard Deposit-Hancock touchdown.

"It was a tough loss," said B-G coach Israel Lorimer. "I felt like we were moving the ball every time. We gave up those three scores…it was a lapse in concentration, and that was the difference in the game."

Among the biggest bright spots was the rushing of running back Ethan Gregory.

Seeing his first significant time at running back this season, Gregory had 26 carries for 163 yards and two touchdowns.

B-G quarterback Ethan Beames was 7-for-13 for 99 yards and a TD pass to Declyn Marshfield.

"We outgained them, but obviously two turnovers hurt," Lorimer said. " We were in good situations offensively all day long. The season keeps rolling, and I hope we learned some lessons."

B-G plays Delhi next weekend.

 Unadilla Valley 34, Oxford 12

OXFORD  -  Unadilla Valley recovered from a miserable start to overtake Oxford in an intra-county football matchup on Saturday.

UV elected to receive the opening kickoff, but was stunned by an onside kick that was recovered by the Blackhawks.

Oxford promptly took that onside kick, and converted it into a touchdown.

Over the next quarter and a half, the Storm lost three fumbles, but managed to take a 14-6 lead into halftime on the strength of an 86-yard TD pass from Kaden Butts to Matt Bodgan, and a Butts 8-yard TD toss to Joe Avolio.

"It was like doomsday for use; it couldn't have started off worse for us," said UV head coach Art Rigas.

"All season long, we've been better in the second half," Rigas said. "This game, it was the same."

Trenton Zvifzdin and Avolio had TD runs sandwiched around Butts' third touchdown pass. Butts again connected with Avolio from 21 yards out that made it 28-6 with eight minutes in the third.

Oxford, for its part, had multiple touchdowns called back getting flagged with untimely penalties that would've made the final outcome a little closer.

"It's just discipline stuff that killed us, but we're improving each week," said Oxford coach Jeremy Tompkins.

Butts finished with 134 yards passing, Matt Bodgan had a team-high 117 yards rushing, and Avolio rushed for 104 yards.
