Published: July 2nd, 2021

BAINBRIDGE – Our library, located in the Bainbridge Town Hall Building, is the oldest chartered library in continuous operation in Chenango County. It is one of nine libraries in the county.

A provisional charter was issued by the state and the library opened in January, 1908. The first librarian was Grace Peckham who was in charge of the library’s 205 books for adults and 75 books for children. As of 1916 3,200 volumes filled the shelves. In May of 1950, the Bainbridge Free Library moved into its current location at 13 North Main Street where it remains a valuable part of the community.

The Bainbridge Free Library is a member of the Four County Library System; which means when you sign up for a library card with us you have the ability to use the inter library loan program with easy access to collections of books, movies, and music CDs from over 40 libraries throughout Broome, Chenango, Otsego and Delaware Counties! Plus you’ll have our unique collection of children’s books, adult fiction, nonfiction, large print books, DVDs, audio-books and magazines to browse and borrow.

For your convenience, we also offer public computer use, internet and WiFi, copier and fax services.

For the month of July we have summer reading grab & go packtets, activity challenges for children, an ongoing book sale, and a summertime raffle to win a book basket.

Our hours are Tues. & Wed. 10-5, Thurs. 10-6 and Sat. 10-1.
