SHERBURNE – Sherburne Public Library is gearing up for the summer and the flurry of activity that happens when Summer Reading starts. The Summer Reading Program, with the theme of “Tails & Tales” kicks off on June 30th with a Kick Off event from 4-6 pm.

Join us on the lawn to register and pick up your, “swag bag.” There will be activities and crafts to participate in, plus some refreshments. Summer Reading programs run throughout July with several events happening each week. Be prepared for lots of animal themed events, including live animals to pet and interact with.

There will be presentations by Dan the Snake Man, the Dirtmeister, Wolf Mountain and a K-9 dog demonstration, plus much more! Flyers with all the information are available at the library now. (If you are unable to make it to the Kick Off, no worries – you may register at the library beginning Monday June 28th.)

By registering for the Summer Reading program, you are able to compete for prizes and “read for beads”. The final Awards Celebration happens on August 5th where our readers get recognition for all their efforts.

The library is extremely excited to be collaborating with local artist, Storm Hammond. Thanks in part to a decentralization grant she will present a series of workshops entitled “The Lost Letters.”

This promises to be a wonderful learning experience and a lot of fun! Starting on June 24th, participants will gain appreciation for cursive writing and it’s historical connections while practicing and celebrating the art of cursive writing. Storm will lead everyone in a series of six workshops where participants will practice their work in journals which will culminate in showcasing their work in an exhibition and the process will be documented into a video presentation.

Story Continues Below Adverts

The workshops are free and open to anyone ages 8 and up. The workshop will be held June 24 – 30, (10am – 12 each day). Please contact the Sherburne Public Library to sign up now. 607-674-4242

Story Time with Mr. Mike is held in-person on Thursdays at 10:15 & 11:00am OR Virtually on Fridays via Zoom at 11:15am. Each week there is a story, songs, activities and a craft. Please register ahead of time so we can limit in-person numbers per session or contact us for the Virtual Zoom Link.

Sherburne Public Library maintains a high social media presence. Please visit our Facebook page for our recorded Book Talks, Story Time, Cooking, and Crafts videos. It is the place to find all the latest happenings at the library. We also have a website where our monthly calendar and other information about the library can be found. http://sherburnelibraryny.org/

Remember that our beautiful old front stair entrance is our only entrance for now until the newer entrance is fixed after the April accident where someone drove into our building. If the stairs are too much for you, we are more than happy to meet you at the bottom with books or other materials. Just give us a call at 607-674-4242. The Book Drop is at the bottom of the stairs for your convenience. Our hours remain M, T, Th, F 10am – 5pm, Wed 10am – 7pm, Sat 10am – 12noon. Look for the Open/Closed sign in the front door window.

The Book Cabinet is at the top of the stairs and holds some books which are free to anyone. Please do not add to or return items to the cabinet. It also serves as the place to pick up crafts for Story Time each week. They are generally put in the cabinet on Wednesday evenings to pair up with the live Zoom Story Time on Fridays or just for a fun craft for your kids.

Come see us at the Sherburne Public Library.
