Norwich tennis ties Chenango Valley

NORWICH - Hosting Chenango Valley, Norwich's boys' tennis team split the six team points evenly in a rare tie on Tuesday afternoon.

Tennis matches typically have five or seven total team points at stake; however, neither team was able to field a complete roster.

Norwich took advantage of the limited lineup winning at second and third doubles, and nearly clinching the match at fourth singles.

Nick Deady claimed a 9-5 win for Norwich at second singles topping Austin Hewison. Meanwhile, Nathan Franklin backed that win up at third singles defeating CV's Gavin Mercik, 9-5.

Norwich's last team point came at second doubles. Phillip Kraft and Alex Newman topped Caydin Gates and Fenner Sisson, 9-5.

In the pivotal fourth singles matchup, CV secured the tie as Alex Fedo nipped Norwich's Grayson Boyer, 9-7.

GIRLS' TENNIS

Chenango Valley 7, Norwich 0

NORWICH - Chenango Valley improved its record to 6-3, while Norwich remaining winless at 0-9 as the Warriors blanked the host Purple Tornado on Tuesday afternoon.

The Warriors were particularly dominant in singles allowing no more than two games to their NHS counterparts over the four contested matches.

In the featured doubles matchup, CV's Caelynn Edwards and Elizabeth Dzumba topped Norwich's number one singles team of Jessie Sutton and Tanner Olds, 9-5.

GOLF

Clinton 173, Sherburne-Earlville 189

CLINTON -  Aside from the medalist performance of Sherburne-Earlville's Andrew Fern, Clinton overtook the Marauders superior overall scoring balance in a home win Wednesday at Skenandoa Golf Club.

Fern, who has staked the top spot for the Marauders throughout the spring season, shot a match-best 2-over-par 38 - three better than the next-best score.

Clinton's four scoring players all came in the 41 to 46 range, which bettered all of the remaining S-E scores.

Brogan Winton had a 48 for S-E, Mason LaCoe carded a 50, and Maleah Britton fired a 53.
