SOFTBALL

Greene blanks Wildcats, 1-0

GREENE - Greene stepped up its level of competition, and came away with one of its biggest victories of the season.

In a scoreless tie, the Trojans scored the one run of the came in the bottom of the sixth, and prevailed  1-0 over the Wildcats on Thursday.

Olivia Kennedy tripled in the sixth inning, and she scored the game-winning run on McKenzie Scott’s double.

Kennedy also pitched a one-hit shutout as Greene’s record improved to 8-1 on the season. Kennedy struck out 15 JC players in the win.

Greene hosts Chenango Forks on Friday.

BASEBALL

Afton 12, Unadilla Valley/G-MU 11 (9 innings)

AFTON - After squandering an early four-run lead, Afton regrouped in the late innings,  plated the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to edge Unadilla Valley-G-MU on Thursday night.

Braydon Baciuska drew a one-out walk for the Crimson Knights in the bottom of the ninth, stole second base, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Haiden Burns’ RBI fielder’s choice.

Brody Oleksak pitched four innings of relief for Afton to pick up the win, and Oleksak also had two hits and three RBI.

Cameron Osborne drove in three runs for UV-GMU, while Timmy Postma and Gavin Bonczkowski had two RBI apiece in the loss.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

 Chenango Forks 7, Norwich 0

CHENANGO FORKS - Playing a one-set format to nine games, Chenango Forks took all seven team points - including one by forfeit - in a victory over Norwich on Wednesday.

The Tornado netters struggled to win games in singles; however, it was at second doubles where they put forth their most competitive matchup.

At second doubles, the Blue Devils’ Madison Schmitz and Halee Allen narrowly edged Norwich’s Tanner Olds and Willow Swingle, 9-6.

BOYS’ TENNIS

Greene 3, Oxford 2

GREENE – With the four contested matchups split down the middle, Greene earned the decisive team point by forfeit at third singles in what was an otherwise evenly contested clash on Thursday.

Greene’s Maeric Barrows was a decisive winner at first singles, and third singles player Shane Rideout grabbed the all-important forfeit point.

The Trojans secured the victory at third doubles when Cassie Butler and Paul Starliper squeaked by Jill Finch and Jocie Finch, 6-4, 6-4.

Ethan Ehly won at second singles for Oxford, and the Blackhawks’ number one doubles team of Madalyn Barrows and Natalie Barrows won in straight sets.

Bainbridge-Guilford 4, Deposit-Hancock 1

DEPOSIT -Bainbridge-Guilford came one point from a sweep of Deposit-Hancock, but settled for its fifth win of the season on Thursday.

Garrett O’Hara, Easton Porter, and Brock Porter all won in straight sets for B-G (5-4), and did not surrender a single game to their Eagles counterparts.

Marek Rajner and Sienko Cooper captured a first doubles win for the Bobcats as well.
