BASEBALL

UV-G-MU swats Sidney, 19-9

NEW BERLIN - Unadilla Valley-G-MU erupted for eight runs in the opening inning, and cruised to a 19-9 over visiting Sidney on Tuesday afternoon.

UV-GMU benefited from five base on balls, an error, and a hit batsman to go with two singles for the early eight-spot.

Cameron Osborne led the UV-GMU batters with a 3-for-3 day at the plate. Osborne drove in six runs highlighted by a two-run homer in the fourth that raised his team's lead to 18-4.

Timmy Postma added three hits and two RBI, while Devon Fairchild along with Trent Marinelli contributed two-hit days.

Colin Grant pitched 5 1-3 innings to pick up the win.

Greene 16, Walton 0

GREENE - Greene's softball team improved to 7-1 on the season as winning pitcher Olivia Kennedy tossed a two-hit shutout.

Payton Yahner supplied a big portion of the Trojans' offense finishing 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, three RBI, and three runs scored.

Mckenzie Scott was 3-for-3 including a home run. Scott drove in three runs, and also scored three times.

Kennedy struck 11 Walton players in the victory.

GOLF

Unadilla Valley-GMU 234, Oxford 249

OXFORD - Unadilla Valley-GMU's golf team used better overall scoring balance to best Oxford Monday, while also improving its record to 8-0 in the spring season.

UV-GMU's Brandon Kneale earned overall medalist honors shooting a 42 over the par-34 front nine at Bluestone Golf Course.

Oxford's Liam O'Brien bettered his season-best score for the second straight match shooting a 43. O'Brien's round was highlighted by a birdie on the par-four fifth hole.

Devin Fairchild added a 45 for UV-GMU, Owen Hill shot a 47, and Devin Hartwell also broke 50 for the winners carding a 49.

Christian Paden had the second-best score for Oxford (3-5) firing a 46.

ORISKANY FALLS - At Barker Brook Golf Club on Monday, Waterville's record improved to a 11-0 with a victory over visiting Sherburne-Earlville.

While Waterville won the overall battle, individual medalist honors went to the Marauders' Andrew Fern.

Fern shoot a 41 over the par-36 front nine, two better than Waterville's Gabe Williams and Gavin Poyer.

GUILFORD - At Sundown Golf Course, Bainbridge-Guilford's golf team took full advantage of the home links defeating visiting Delhi on Monday afternoon.

Caleb Presley and Carson Benjamin headed up the Bobcats' scoring shooting 42 and 43 respectively.

Jon England (47), Thomas Lord (48), and Colby Furguson (55) rounded out the B-G scoring.

GREENE - Greene's golf team moved over the .500 mark at 5-4 beating an undermanned Sidney team on Monday.

The Warriors were forced to forfeit as only four out the five required players turned in scoring rounds.

On the Greene side, Lincoln Youngs led the way shooting a 45. Scout McCumiskey and Clayton Leonard were one shot behind Young turning in matching 46s.

GIRLS' TENNIS

Seton Catholic Central 7, Norwich 0

BINGHAMTON - Norwich offered up much better competition in its second meeting with Seton Catholic Central Monday, but suffered the same fate in shutout defeat.

Nearly every match had competitive sets with Norwich's Natalie Benenati pushing Natalie Crowley to three sets in the first singles matchup.

Crowley would eventually prevail, 6-2, 2-6, 6-0.

GREENE - Sidney recorded its second straight one-point win against Chenango County opposition edging Greene (4-4) on Monday.

Unlike the previous win over Oxford last week, Sidney needed to split the two doubles matches to grab the win.

Shane Rideout gave the Trojans a big win at third singles topping Emily Morris 6-2, 7-5.

Greene's second doubles team of Samantha Darling and Paul Starliper gave the hosts their second team point winning 6-3, 6-2.

Sidney's first doubles team of Dhalia VanKingsley and Cameron Harris survived a first-set loss to Alex Boel and Riley Howerter rallying for the final team point, 0-6, 6-4, 7-5.

Bainbridge-Guilford 3, Oxford 2

BAINBRIDGE - Bainbridge-Guilford benefited from an Oxford forfeit at third singles, and that point was the difference maker in Monday's victory over the Blackhawks.

Garrett O'Hara and Easton Porter picked up wins at first and second singles for the Bobcats. (4-4). Brock Porter added a third team point receiving the forfeit.

Oxford salvaged its two team points at first and second doubles.

Madalyn Barrows paired with Natalie Barrows to grab a 6-2, 6-4 win over B-G's Marek Rajner and Giovanni Johnson. Meanwhile, Jill Finch and Jocie Finch secured a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Trent Sullivan and Sienko Cooper.

TRACK AND FIELD

UV-G-MU defeats Oxford track

NEW BERLIN - Unadilla Valley-G-MU earned a sweep of the boys' and girls' team events beating Oxford's boys 77-26, and the girls 81-30.

Ben Gorrell had a three-win day for UV-GMU's boys.  Gorrell won the 110-meter hurdles (18.7), 400-meter hurdles (1:10.3), and the pole vault (5-6).

Victor Richette swept the 100- and 200-meter races for Oxford winning in 12.3 and 24.4 seconds respectively.

UV-GMU's girls took all but one event in their win over the Blackhawks.

Jaiden Schrag grabbed wins in both hurdles races taking the 100 meters in 18.7 and 400 in 1:14.5. Kadence York also powered to a pair of distance race victories.

York took the 1,500 meters in 5:53.1, and the 800 meters in 2:56.8.
