Purple Tornado Track And Field At 'Need For Speed Invitational'

JOHNSON CITY– The Norwich Purple Tornado varsity track and field team were back in action on Friday May 21st as the NHS harriers recorded some top tier times on their way to numerous top 10 finishes.

In the boys 100 meter dash finals, Norwich sophomores Jerrell Stokes and Anthony Ragonese finished ninth and tenth respectively with times of 12.31 and 12.43. Moving onto the 200 meter dash final, freshman Richard Fuller placed seventh in a time of 24:53.

Norwich senior Julian Roque claimed the top spot in the 1000 meter run in a time of 2:41.16. Roque’’s teammate Stephen Kman finished in eighth place in the event, timing 2:52.42. NHS middle-distance runner Makaio Sutton continued his success in the 600 meter run placing seventh in a time of 1:30.06.

Norwich senior Lex Genute finished seventh in the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 20:05. Genute would build on his earlier performance as he placed second in the 200 meter hurdles, timing 28.10.

On the girls’ side of the track, Norwich senior Grace Bookamer recorded a 19th place finish in the 600 meters, timing 2:17. Bookamer also added a 14th place finish in the 200 meter hurdles in a time of 40:98.

Norwich returns to the track when they host the Susquehanna Valley Sabers today at 5:30pm.
