BASEBALL

Saints beat Norwich in extra innings

NORWICH - Norwich rallied to tie the game in the sixth and seventh innings, but a Seton Catholic Central eight-spot in the eighth inning led it to a 12-7 win over the Purple Tornado Tuesday night.

Down 3-0 heading to the bottom of the sixth, Josh Willis’ RBI double scored Mike Hagen, and Willis drove in Hagen with a single cutting the deficit to 3-2.

After giving up a tally to the Saints in the seventh, Norwich loaded the bases, and Trey Bates scored on Evan Sylstra’s single.

Afton wins slugfest over rival B-G

AFTON -  Afton scored 12 runs in its opening  at-bat, and it needed every one of those tallies outslugging rival Bainbridge-Guilford, 19-12, on Wednesday.

Brady Buttice tripled twice for the Crimson Knights, and finished 4-for-5 at the plate with five RBI.

Cleanup hitter, Brody Oleksak, homered and finished with two hits and four runs batted in.

Damien Farberman had two hits and three RBI for B-G.

Sherburne-Earlville bests Hamilton

HAMILTON - Playing at Seven Oaks Golf Club , Sherburne-Earlville’s Andrew Fern shot a team-best 43 over the par-36 front nine, and the Marauders upended host Hamilton by 10 shots, 201-211, on Wednesday.

Keegan Kane added a 49 for the Marauders, who evened their record at 1-1 on the spring season

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Seton Catholic Central 7, Norwich 0

BINGHAMTON - While Norwich found itself in several competitive sets, it was unable to take a set - or a team point - in a shutout loss to Seton Catholic Central on Tuesday afternoon.

Norwich’s most competitive performance on the day was at third doubles.

The team of Jessie Sutton and Meadow Rosenthal pushed Seton’s Katie Matthews and Amanda Martinez to 6-4, 6-4 sets.

Oneonta 7, Norwich 0

ONEONTA - At Oneonta on Tuesday, Norwich dropped all seven team points to the Yellowjackets, but the final count easily could’ve been much tighter.

The Yellowjackets won all three matches that went to three sets, and also captured a tiebreaker in third singles.

Norwich’s Jonathan Ryan (second singles), along with Alex Newman-Phillip Kraft (second doubles) and Phillip Kraft-Alex Newton (third doubles) all pushed their Oneonta rivals to third sets.
