NORWICH – A fatal accident on County Road 32 closed the road for several hours on Thursday as law enforcement and emergency responders worked at the scene.

According to sheriff’s office investigators, the driver of the ATV, Robert Favorito, was killed by a car as he attempted to cross the road on a sharp turn on County Road 32, near River Road Auto, in the Town of Norwich. The accident occurred at about 1:22 p.m. on Thursday.

Chenango County Fire Bureau Coordinator Matthew Beckwith said, initially, an emergency helicopter was dispatched, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The Norwich Fire Department was immediately dispatched to the scene, along with the county highway department,” said Beckwith. “A helicopter was also dispatched, but was cancelled before its arrival.”

Chenango County Undersheriff Daniel Frair confirmed the death Friday and said no one involved would likely face any charges.

“It was truly a tragic accident,” said Frair. “It’s kind of a blind corner, and it’s definitely a tough situation for everyone involved.”

“A car was passing through the turn while the ATV crossed the road, and the two collided,” he said.

Frair thanked the New York State Police, Norwich Fire Department, and the Chenango County Medical Examiner’s Office for their assistance in this case.
