NEW BERLIN - Hosting a six-team meeting Wednesday, Unadilla Valley-G-MU had three of its boys runners finish in the top-five giving it a one-point cross country win over Sidney.

In three-person scoring, Brenna Finch placed second for UV-GMU timing 16:40.5 over the 2.53-mile course.  Kristan Stachura (4th, 18:25.2) and Noah Pain (5th, 18:30.4) helped the Storm bring home the win with 11 points to Sidney’s 12.

“We had very strong runs from Brennan Finch, Kristian Stachura, Noah Pain, and Jacob Prentice on (our home) course,” said UV-GMU coach Bob Mackey. “They pushed each other throughout the course, and the last quarter mile of the race, the strong kick of Kristian, Noah, and Jacob were the key to the team’s slim margin of victory.”

Gracie Gorrell placed second in 20.34.5 in the girls’ race to lead UV-G-MU to a second-place finish behind Afton-B-G-Harpursville.

“Our UV-GMU girls saw the return of Katie Norwood, who completed in her first meet of the season,” Mackey said. “However, they also ran without Kaitlyn Finch due to an injury, so they needed a strong showing from all four runners to do well in the meet.”
