Victim Fights Off Sex Attack In Norwich, Police Seek Suspect

NORWICH – The Norwich Police Department and the New York State Police are currently investigating an attempted sexual assault that occurred Tuesday afternoon in the City of Norwich.

On March 23, 2021 at approximately 2:35 pm, the victim was walking north on the railroad tracks between Rexford Street and Borden Avenue in the City of Norwich.

The victim reported being grabbed from behind, dragged to a thick brush area and thrown to the ground. The suspect proceeded to forcibly and partially unclothe the victim. The victim was able to fight off the attacker and escape. The victim was treated at Chenango Memorial Hospital for minor abrasions and released.

The suspect was described as a white male, mid-twenties, dirty blonde/light brown hair, wearing a gray colored tank top. The victim also reported the suspect was carrying what was described as possibly being a red colored belt.

It’s believed that the suspect fled the area headed east towards Waite Street. The Norwich Police is asking if anyone has any information or who may have observed or heard something, to please contact them at 334-1212 or the NPD Tips Line at 336-TIPS (8477).
