Sheriff's Office: Inmate Found Dead Of Blood Infection In His Cell

NORWICH – On Thursday Chenango County Sheriff Ernest R. Cutting announced the death of an inmate at the Chenango County Correctional Facility, who was found non-responsive in his bunk on Wednesday.

According to the sheriff on March 17, at about 1:30 a.m. Chenango County Correctional Officers discovered an unconscious male inmate on his bunk, inside his cell.

The inmate was identified as 22-year-old, Dillin R. Button.

Button was brought to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on Monday, March 15, by the Norwich City Police Department after he was arrested on a court warrant for seventh degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

“Correctional Officers made several attempts to awake Mr. Button, followed by performing life saving measures. Members of the Norwich Fire Department responded to the scene and continued CPR on Mr. Button. He was later pronounced deceased, and an investigation into his untimely passing was initiated,” stated Cutting.
