NORWICH – The Purple Tornado girls varsity basketball team were back to their winning ways on Saturday February 27th when they defeated the Delaware Academy (Delhi) Bulldogs on Senior Night 73-42.

Norwich honored seniors Sydney Coggins, Abby Hansen and Jordan Hess for their accomplishments and dedication to the Norwich girls basketball program during pre-game festivities. However, once the game began the Purple Tornado was all business.

Norwich’s offense was even across the board as Sydney Coggins and Margaret Dougher each scored seven points, with Emily Evans pitching in six points in the first 16 minutes of play. Delhi struggled to contain the dynamic Norwich offense as each of the Tornado’s offensive weapons were unable to be contained as the Purple Tornado carried a 36-18 lead into the halftime break.

The second half proved to be no different as Norwich dominated Delhi in multiple facets of the game, as the Tornado outscored Delhi 37-24 in the final 16 minutes of play. This time the Norwich offense featured sophomore guard Sarah Davis as she scored all nine of her points in the fourth quarter.

“We did a good job of wearing them down with our pace and press” said Norwich Head Coach Josh Bennett.

Norwich’s Emily Evans led in scoring with 14 points, Margaret Dougher and Sydney Coggins each added 10 points each.
