NORWICH –The Chenango Arts Council is pleased to announce that Kenny Harris’s “Imagimenagerie” will be the next exhibit to appear in the Mariea Brown and Raymond Loft Galleries, beginning Tuesday, March 9.

An examination of mythology, culture and psychology, “Imagimenagerie” seeks to illustrate that humanity’s many cultures have acted as one in creating mythology to understand their world, and in being influenced by the mythology they create.

Harris makes this point by assembling characters from diverse times and places and reimagining them in a single style, black ink drawings on thin paper suspended to cast a large shadow on the wall.

Viewers can feel in the presence of these figures as they reflect on how imagination is truly a universal human experience. The artist explains, “By removing the identifying cultural cues found in these legends, characters like Quetzalcoatl and Zmey Gorynych can be placed within the same cultural realms as each other, even though their origins are disparate in time and space. In doing this, the myths are able to represent the larger culture of humanity and the underlying psychology behind the myths we create.”

This exciting show will be up until March 25, 2021. Gallery hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. or by appointment. Images from the exhibit will also be posted at chenangoarts.org and the Arts Council’s social media.

Chenango Arts Council is located at 27 West Main Street, Norwich, NY 13815. Appointments can be made by calling 607-336-2787. Masks and social distancing are required.
