Man accused of striking officer arrested following standoff

PHARSALIA – A Pharsalia man who law enforcement said hospitalized a police officer was taken into custody on Tuesday after a two hour long standoff with a knife.

Seymour Shaver, 44, of Pharsalia was charged with assault of a police officer, a class C felony, second-degree assault, a class D felony, and resisting arrest.

According to a statement from the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, a warrant for the crime of assault on a police officer was signed by the Town of Pharsalia Judge after an altercation Shaver had with police on Monday night.

Following the altercation, the deputy was transported by the Norwich Fire Department to Chenango Memorial Hospital and later transported to Upstate University Hospital. His injuries are listed as serious, but non-life threatening
