COVENTRY – The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal accident that occurred over the weekend in the Town of Coventry.

According to Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Joshua Gould, the accident occurred at approximately 1:44 p.m. Saturday afternoon on State Highway 235 in Coventry.

Gould said Austin R. Smith, 20, of Harpersville was driving a Lexus, and Kyle E. Smith, 26, of Afton was driving a Jeep on State Highway 235.

He said Kyle attempted to pass Austin, accidentally hitting the back left corner of the vehicle, and going off of the road.

He said Austin spun into oncoming traffic where Dennis E. Robinson Jr, 36, of Susquehanna, P.A. was traveling south in the northbound lane in a Dodge Ram pickup truck.
