GERMAN – The New York State Police recently confirmed that two individuals died following a motor vehicle accident that was discovered on Thursday afternoon.

Police identified the driver of the vehicle as Matthew C. Monroe, 24, of Willet, NY. The passenger of the vehicle was identified as Judah A. Harris, 26, of Whitney Point, NY.

According to New York State Police Troop C Public Information Officer Aga Dembinska, on September 3, state police at Norwich responded to a 911 call about a two-person fatal crash in the Town of German.

Dembinska said law enforcement are unsure of when the accident actually took place, but reported officers got the first call about the incident Thursday afternoon.

“Troopers were dispatched to County Road 2 near County Road 5 in the town of German at approximately 2:10 p.m. but it is unclear when the crash occurred,” said Dembinska. “A passerby saw marks in the roadway with trees and brush down and found a crashed vehicle.”

“The passerby then called 911.”

Dembinska said a preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle went off the roadway for an unknown reason and crashed. She said the two occupants were ejected out of the vehicle.

She added that the Chenango County Medical Examiner responded to the scene, and both bodies were transported to Lourdes Hospital for an autopsy.

She added that the Greene, Genegantslet, and Willet Fire Departments assisted at the scene along with the Cincinnatus Volunteer Ambulance Squad, and the Town of German Highway Department assisted at the scene.

“The incident is still under investigation,” said Dembinska.
