NORWICH – The New York State Police said a Norwich man ignored a court order, broke into a victim's home, and assaulted the person in front of a child on Saturday.

The suspect was charged with a number of crimes including felony burglary and contempt following the incident, and the victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

According to Troop C Public Information Office Aga Dembinska, at 1:24 p.m. on Saturday, August 8 New York State Police at Sidney charged Jeremy A. Squires, 45, of Norwich, with second-degree burglary, first-degree criminal contempt, along with the misdemeanors of third-degree assault, fourth-degree criminal mischief, and endangering the welfare of a child.

“Mr. Squires is known to the New York State Police,” said Dembinska. “In this case, troopers were dispatched to a report of a physical domestic at a residence on County Highway 35 in the Town of Guilford.”

Dembinska said upon arrival, the suspect, who had already left the scene, was identified as Squires. She added it was reported that Squires broke into the victim’s home and initially prevented them from calling for help.
