NORWICH - A vacant home in Norwich is being considered a total loss by firefighters after an undetermined cause led to the side of the building catching fire.

According to City of Norwich Fire Department Chief Jan Papelino, a 911 call was made at approximately 2:52 a.m.,Tuesday morning with a caller stating that a tree and house at 37 Guernsey Street were on fire. He said at this point the cause and origin of the fire has not been determined.

“The person who called said after he saw the fire, he went inside to get his phone, came back out, and the whole house was on fire,” said Papelino. “At this point it's got significant damage, the fire started on the alpha-delta corner, the roof caved-in on it, and it’s going to need to be taken down.”
