CHENANGO COUNTY - Representatives of the Chenango County Planning Department confirmed that representatives of the census will be doing at home visits throughout the upcoming weeks, but warned that it’s important residents beware census scams.

According to Chenango County Planning Department Director Shane Butler, Chenango County is falling behind in the goal of increasing census responses, with it only beating two other counties in the Southern Tier. He said a reason for the lack of responses is that residents with a PO Box haven’t received questionnaires, and in the more rural sections of the county PO Boxes are more common.

“This week, the Census Bureau has restarted limited field operations in Chenango County, specifically for the Update Leave operation,” said Butler. “Census workers are delivering 2020 Census invitations and questionnaires to households which have not yet received them; mostly at rural addresses that do not get regular mail delivery.”
