School Districts To Hold Budget Vote June 9

CHENANGO COUNTY – Voting for proposed school budgets in Chenango County will take place June 9 and all schools have been mandated to allow voting to be done by absentee ballot.

Below is a compiled list of when each school in Chenango County will be holding a public hearing for their proposed budget, information about each school’s election, and how to obtain an absentee ballot and copy of the proposed budget from each school.

Norwich Central School District

A final school budget presentation will take place Monday, May 18 at 6 p.m. There will then be an adjourned budget hearing taking place remotely, on Wednesday, May 27 at 6 p.m. For information on how to access these meetings, visit the school’s website at https://www.norwichcsd.org.

The budget vote and election will be held on June 9, 2020 by absentee ballots. All eligible voters are entitled to an absentee ballot. The District Clerk will mail absentee ballots to all eligible voters in the Norwich City School District. Absentee ballots must be received in the office of the District Clerk no later than 5 p.m. on June 9. If you do not receive an absentee ballot, please contact the District Clerk’s office.

Copies of the proposed budget for the 2020-2021 fiscal year may be obtained by any resident in the Norwich City School District upon request beginning May 20 to June 9 from the District Clerk at the District Office, they may also be requested by email at psalvati@norwichcsd.org. A copy of the Guernsey Memorial Library budget may be received upon request and is also available on the Norwich City School District website.

Greene Central School District

A public budget hearing of the residents of the Greene Central School District will be held remotely through Zoom on Monday, June 1 at 6 p.m. where the the proposed school district budget for the following school year will be presented.

The budget vote will take place on Tuesday, June 9 by absentee ballot. The District Clerk will mail absentee ballots to all eligible voters based on the County Registered Voter lists, previous in-person voting log, and eligible students of the district. If you do not receive an absentee ballot and are eligible, contact the District Office via email at tbrant@greenecsd.org or calling (607) 656-4161 ext. 214.

Absentee ballots must be received by the office of the district clerk not later than 5 p.m. on June 9.

A copy of the budget will be completed seven days before the budget hearing and may be obtained by any resident of the District at the District Office between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m for fourteen days before the annual meeting and election, except Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays.

Otselic Valley Central School District

The public budget hearing for Otselic Valley Central School District will be held in the South Otselic school building on June 2 at 7 p.m. via Zoom. The budget will be available for review on May 26, 2020 at the Otselic Valley School. The budget will also be available on the website, www.ovcs.org.

The budget vote and board member election will be held on Tuesday, June 9. Only qualified voters will be permitted to vote by absentee ballot. There is no in-person voting this year.

Gilbertsville-Mount Upton Central School

The annual budget hearing for the Gilbertsville-Mount Upton Central School District will be held June 1 at 7:30 a.m. as a video conference on Zoom, which the public may log on to with access number 995 7751 9767.

The budget vote and board member election will be held on Tuesday, June 9 between the hours of 12 p.m. and 8 p.m. Voting will be by absentee ballot only. The District Clerk will send out absentee ballots to all voters registered with the County Board of Elections. If you do not receive an absentee ballot by June 1 and are an eligible voter contact Jarrin Hayen, District Clerk, at 607-783-2207, ext. 140. Completed absentee ballots must be returned to the district office by 5 p.m. on June 9. 

A copy of the proposed budget can be obtained by any resident of the district at the District Office for fourteen days before the vote on June 9 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. except Saturday, Sunday or a holiday.

Oxford Academy and Central School District

A budget hearing for the Oxford Academy and Central School District will be held June 1 at 12 p.m. as a video live stream conference where there will be a presentation of the proposed School District budget for the following school year. It may be accessed on the school’s website, www.oxac.org.

The budget vote as well as the election of members of the Board of Education will be held on Tuesday, June 9 at the Oxford Academy Middle School between the hours of 12 p.m. and 8 p.m. Voting shall be by absentee ballot only.

The District Clerk will send out absentee ballots to all voters registered with the County Board of Elections. If you do not receive an absentee ballot by June 1 and are an eligible voter, please contact Michele Rice, District Clerk at 607-843-2025, ext. 4040, or at the District Office at the school, 12 Fort Hill Park, Oxford, NY 13830. Absentee ballots must be received in the office of the District Clerk of the District not later than 5 p.m. on June 9.

Sherburne-Earlville Central School


A budget hearing for Sherburne-Earlville Central School will be held on June 1 at 6:30 p.m. through a Zoom webinar. There will be a presentation on the proposed school district budget for the following school year. Information regarding access to the budget hearing may be found on the district’s website at www.secsd.org.

The budget vote as well as the election of members of the Board of Education will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 by mail-in ballot vote. At least one absentee ballot will be provided per household. If a household requires additional ballots, please contact the District Clerk at villantem@seonline.org. Absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk by 5 p.m. on June 9.

A copy of the school budget will be completed by May 25 and may be obtained by any resident of the District at each school building during the period of 14 days immediately before the annual meeting and election, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., except Saturday, Sunday, or holiday.

Unadilla Valley Central School

A budget hearing for Unadilla Valley Central School District will be held Monday, June 1, immediately following the board regular hearing at 6 p.m via a Zoom webinar.. Information regarding access to the budget hearing may be found on the District’s website at www.uvstorm.org.

The budget vote, along with the election of members of the Board of Education, will be held on Tuesday, June 9 by mail-in ballot vote. At least one absentee ballot will be provided per household. If a household requires additional ballots, please contact the District Clerk at (607) 847-7500, ext. 1131 or vdoliver@uvstorm.org. Absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk by 5:00 p.m. on June 9.

A copy of the proposed budget will be completed by May 25 and may be obtained by any resident of the District at the District Office during the period of 14 days immediately before the annual meeting and election, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., except Saturday, Sunday, or holidays.

Bainbridge-Guilford Central School

A budget hearing for the Bainbridge-Guilford Central School District will be held virtually at 6 p.m. on June 2. Information regarding the hearing will be posted on the District’s website at http://bgcsd.org.

The budget vote, as well as the election of members of the Board of Education, will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 via absentee ballot only. The District will mail absentee ballots to qualified voters. If a voter believes they should have received a ballot and did not, please contact the District Clerk at (607) 967-6321 or sweibel@bgcsd.org.

A copy of the budget will be completed by May 26 and may be obtained by any resident of the District at each schoolhouse during the period of 14 days immediately before the annual meeting and election between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., except Saturdays, Sundays or a holiday.

Afton Central School

A public budget hearing for Afton Central School District will be held remotely on Monday, June 1 at 7 p.m. Information for how to access the hearing is available on the schools website, https://www.aftoncsd.org.

The budget vote and election of Board of Education members of the Afton Central School District will be held on Tuesday, June 9, 2020. Qualified voters of the District will be sent an absentee ballot together with a postage-paid return envelope and instructions for completing. At least one absentee ballot will be mailed to each household in the District.

Additional absentee ballots may be requested by any other qualified voters in the household by contacting the District Clerk by email at cbeames@aftoncsd.org or by calling the District Clerk at 607-639-8229, this request must be made by Friday, May 29. In order to be counted, absentee ballots must be received in the office of the clerk by 5 p.m. on June 9, 2020.

A copy of the proposed budget will be made available, upon request, to residents of the school district beginning May 22, 2020 and on the District’s website at www.aftoncsd.org.
