Norwich Man Charged With Sexually Exploiting Young Child

NORWICH - A Norwich man is facing federal felony charges after he allegedly sexually exploited a child under the age of six and recorded the abuse.

According to a document released from the United States Attorney’s Office, Patrick M. Kain, 33, of Norwich was charged with sexually exploiting a child.

The federal criminal complaint alleges that in February 2019, Kain sexually exploited a child under the age of 6 for the purpose of producing visual depictions of that abuse. The United State’s Attorney’s Office said if convicted of the charge alleged in the complaint, Kain faces a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 25 years, a maximum sentence of 50 years, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of post-imprisonment supervised release of at least 5 years and up to life.

Kain appeared today before United States Magistrate Judge Miroslav Lovric, and was detained pending further proceedings.

The case is being investigated by the FBI, the New York State Police, and the Chenango County District Attorney’s Office.
