BAINBRIDGE - Fire department officials are still investigating the cause of a fire that claimed a home in Bainbridge over the weekend.

Bainbridge Fire Department First Assistant Chief Howard Burdick said a house fire was called in at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, on North Main Street in the Village of Bainbridge.

“I was the first one on scene, and when I got there the garage and carport was on fire,” said Burdick. “It was fully involved, and by the time we put the fire out I would put the loss at about 75 percent, but there was smoke damage all throughout the other side of the house too.”

Burdick said the majority of the home’s belongings were away from the fire in storage boxes, not yet unpacked.
