CHENANGO COUNTY - In response to a request for aid from the Chenango County Area Agency on Aging, the New York National Guard is delivering locally prepared food to vulnerable populations throughout Chenango County.

Chenango County Fire Coordinator Matthew Beckwith said currently the Area Agency on Aging is delivering food to 275 people per week, and that with volunteer numbers dwindling the New York National Guard has agreed to fill in with manpower and ensure the meals are delivered throughout Chenango County.

Beckwith said approximately 10 service members of the New York National Guard will be assisting Chenango County personnel with food delivery until Friday, April 24. He said after the completion of the deliveries, they will return to a hotel in Binghamton and await their next food delivery assignment from the Emergency Management Office.
