CHENANGO COUNTY – For the first time in 24 years, Relay for Life will have to cancel the Survivor and Caregiver Walk and Celebration.

Every year, the Chenango County Relay for Life hosts a walk and celebration for cancer survivors and their care takers. However, with a concern for people’s safety and well being in mind, Relay for Life has made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s event.

The coronavirus is having a significant impact on the organization’s ability to raise funds. According to Robertson, most teams hold fundraising events to raise money. But with New York on pause and social distancing practices in place, fundraising efforts have slowed to a trickle.

According to Relay for Life Planning Committee Member, Marie Loughren, some teams are still raising money online.
