CHENANGO COUNTY – The Chenango United Way has started a response fund in an effort to counter the needs arising in the community from COVID-19.

The United Way has raised just over $41,000 toward the COVID-19 response fund. The funds have been donated by the RC Smith Foundation, the Community Foundation for South Central New York, and several local individuals.

“The fund was opened by the Chenango United Way Board of Directors on March 13 in an effort to assist the immediate emergency needs of local families facing the pandemic,” said Executive Director of the Chenango United Way, Elizabeth Monaco.

Funds are being used to address food insecurity and a shortage of hygiene supplies among vulnerable individuals and families in Chenango County. This includes home-bound senior citizens, those who are quarantined, and children receiving meals delivered through their school districts.

“We have had many individuals calling the United Way office needing food because they are unable to get to the store, as well as asking for help in getting personal hygiene items and other household supplies,” said Monaco.
