Lady Blackhawks Top Storm For Second Time This Week

Bobcats and Marauders downed in conference play

OXFORD – The Lady Blackhawks jumped out to a 19-8 first quarter lead over the Unadilla Valley Storm in the second meeting between the two teams this week. Oxford built the lead to 22 by the end of the third quarter before coming away with the 58-35 Midstate Athletic Conference playoff victory.

Madalyn Barrows led all scorers with 16 points and rebounded yet another double-double on the season with her 10 rebounds in the contest.

Oxford also saw Caitlyn Quigley tally 15 points Karley Miller finish with 12. Senior Ellie Ryan gave the Blackhawks four scorers in double figures for the night with her 11 points.

Despite battling foul trouble throughout the game, Unadilla Valley was able to keep Oxford off the offensive glass as they allowed just nine second chance opportunities for the host Blackhawks.

However, Oxford made up the difference by finding the open player and converting the bucket to award the assist. The Blackhawks ended the night with 14 assists as team and showed with the balanced scoring throughout the team.

Another factor in Oxford’s win was the ability to knock down their shots as they shot 41-percent from the floor and went 18-for-23 from the free throw line. The Storm, on the other hand, made just eight of their 18 attempts from the charity stripe and went 13-for-48 for shots attempted in the game.
