WALTON – Both the Greene/Oxford and Bainbridge-Guilford-Afton-Harpursville wrestling teams saw two stand at the top of the podium following the finals bouts of the Section IV Class A Qualifier Saturday in Walton.

The Blackhawks’ Kaad’n Wakefield took the title at the 113 pound weight class while Noah Kennedy repeated as a class champion the 195 pound division.

Capturing his second straight class title for the Bears was Brody Oleksak, winning the 145 pound bracket. BGAH also had Timmy James capture the 285 championship, improving on his third place finish from a season ago.

Wakefield of the Blackhawks took on top-seeded Jose Bivar of BGAH in the finals. Bivar, who had already taken on a Greene/Oxford wrestler in the second round, earned two pins to get to the title bout for 113 pounds. Wakefield reached the finals with a pin and a 3-1 decision, setting up the Chenango County showdown in the finals.

The Blackhawks’ wrestler was crowned champion with a 3:07 pin, upsetting the top seed of the bracket in the second period.

Oleksak found himself in the finals after a 1:39 pinfall and a 15-0 technical fall in the semifinals. The Bears’ repeat champion defeated the second seed of the division in 4:36, pinning Dryden’s Bobby Brothertone.
