BGAH Earns Win Over Owego To Reach Semis Of Section IV Dual Championships

Norwich falls in first round to Walton-Delhi

BINGHAMTON – Both Norwich and the Bainbridge-Guilford-Afton-Harpursville Bears took to the mat in the Section IV Division-II Dual Meet Championships on Saturday in Chenango Forks. The Purple Tornado fell in the first round to Walton-Delhi in a 48-38 loss while BGAH captured a win over Owego.

The Bears then went up against second-seeded Tioga in the semifinals, where the Tigers topped BGAH 54-21.

BGAH earned a close opening round win over Owego as the final was 43-40. The Bears took a 9-0 lead after the first three weight classes at the match started at 145 pounds.

Brady Buttice of BGAH earned a 3-0 decision over Owego’s Zach Miner for the first win of the match. With no match at 152 pounds, the Bears went ahead 9-0 with the forfeit by the Indians at 160.

Owego quickly got those points back with a forfeit by BGAH at 170 pounds. Then Indians took an 18-9 advantage with a 48 second pin by Cam Bundy and another forfeit by the bears at 195 pounds.

Rocco Arduini broke up the Owego winning streak with a pinfall victory in the second period, taking down his opponent at 2:35.

As the 285 pound bout was about to end, Owego’s Logan Bailey pinned Dalton Griffith of the Bears to bring the score to 24-15 in favor of the Indians.
