BAINBRIDGE – The Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce has been developing a community center over the last six months and officials are looking for skilled volunteers to help with interior work.

According to Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce Secretary Christine Smith, the new building is located at 7 Prospect Street in the Village of Bainbridge. Smith said the building is going to be open to anyone in the community, but that the chamber needs volunteers to help with the next phase of construction.

“The community has really needed a place that’s available for anyone to meet, and we really haven’t had that in our area,” said Smith. “We decided that Bainbridge needed a community center, a place for local organizations to meet.”

She said local churches have requested a location to play recreational volleyball, which the chamber is hoping to provide as well.

Smith said before the chamber began construction on the center, the property held an old chicken coop that was refurbished into a scout house.
