Oxford takes down Sidney in MAC matchup

HOLLAND PATENT – Nearly spoiling a milestone night for a player of the Holland Patent Golden Knights, the Lady Marauders of Sherburne-Earlville fought until the last minute of the contest as they fell by a final of 64-56 Monday night.

Needing just five points entering the game, Haedyn Roberts of the Lady Knights scored the 1,000th point of her career with 2:54 seconds left in the first quarter as her team held a large lead over the visiting Marauders.

At the end of the opening stanza, the home team finished with a 20-7 run. 12 points came from the LeMoyne-bound senior. However, S-E didn’t back down.

Battling limited bodies and foul trouble early, the Lady Marauders gradually chipped away the home team’s 13-point margin and brought the difference to as low as five. As Sherburne-Earlville inched closer, time expired and handed them the fifth loss of the season.

Following the first, Sherburne-Earlville made a small adjustment in order to get the ball into the middle of the Holland Patent zone defense. Receiving the ball through most of the second quarter was Maria Albertina. The post player paced S-E with nine points during the frame, one of which the Marauders outscored the Golden Knights 16-15 before the intermission.
