Lady Tornado Suffer First Loss Of Season, Go 1-1 On The Weekend

SYRACUSE – The Lady Purple Tornado fell for the first time this season on Friday to Rome Free Academy of Section III by one point but quickly recovered from the setback with a win over Section V's Fairport 67-51.

Norwich, who was ranked fourth in the state going into Friday's contest, lost to the host RFA Black Knights 48-47.

The Lady Tornado were led by Abby Flynn's team-high 15 points and saw nine from both Abby Hansen and Margaret Dougher in the loss. Emily Evans chipped in eight points as well.

Norwich trailed by four points at the end of the half and chipped the lead down to three before the start of the fourth.

In the final eight minutes, the visiting team out scored Rome 16-14 but the home team was able to clng to their first half lead to win the contest.

Down the stretch, RFA went 6-for-8 at the free throw line to help seal the deal.

Less than 24 hours later, Norwich traveled to Onondaga Community College in Syracuse to face Section V's Fairport.

With a one point lead at the end of the first, the Tornado went on a scoring run in the second to take a large advantage into the halftime break. In the eight minute stretch, Norwich put 24 points on the board – doubling Fairport's second quarter total.
