Norwich’s Early Lead Tops Sus Valley For Road Win

Oxford defeats Afton in MAC game

CONKLIN – The Norwich Purple Tornado boys basketball team earned their second divisional win Monday night, taking down host Susquehanna Valley 62-50.

Norwich built a seven point lead after the first quarter and continued to add to the margin, despite the strong effort from the Sabers’ Joe Waitkavicz. The Sus Valley forward finished with 22 of the team’s 50 to record a game-high in the loss.

The Purple Tornado once again made several shots from beyond the 3-point arc, sinking nine. Tommy Flanagan led the long-range shooters, hitting five for the second straight game. Flanagan finished with 17 points.

Senior guard Carson Maynard also had multiple 3-point field goals, scoring six of his team-high 19 in the game. Maynard led the Tornado in the second quarter, scoring seven of the team’s 11 points in the stanza to help Norwich maintain the lead at the break.

Out of the intermission, the Purple Tornado really caught fire from long distance, aiding in the momentum staying in the favor. Flanagan connected on three of his five 3-pointers in the frame while Maynard and Norwich youngster Torin Lawrence each hit one from behind the arc.

Lawrence finished with nine points in the road win for the Tornado. JT Vinal, one of Norwich’s leading scorers this season was held to two made free throws but helped the team out in other ways as he filled the rest of his statline.
