CORTLAND – The indoor track and field season kicked off during the holiday weekend for both Norwich and Bainbridge-Guilford as both teams competed in the 607 Invitational Saturday morning.

The Purple Tornado’s Nik Barber and Miranda Cole captured first place medals while the Bobcats Erica Selfridge also stood at the top of the podium to open the 2019-2020 season.

Barber won the boys high jump, finishing with a height of 5 feet-10 inches and Cole took home first in the girls 55 meter dash as she sprinted the short distance in 7.7 seconds.

Selfridge jumped her way to the top in the girls triple jump, beating the field by nearly two feet. Her best of three jumps was 33 feet-7.25 inches. The B-G junior also placed fifth in the long jump and sixth in the 55 meter dash for the day.

Competing the long jump as well was Norwich’s Cole and Angela Carlson, placing third and sixth in the event. Cole came away with the highest finish of all three county participants with her jump of 15 feet-.75 inches.

Running along side Cole and Selfridge in the 55 meter dash was first year Purple Tornado Emily Davis. Davis placed in the top eight with her time of 8.23 seconds. She also ran in the 300 meter dash, finishing sixth overall out of 16 runners in the event.
