Oxford shuts out A/H to stay hot, S-E ties 2-2

NEW BERLIN – In a much an anticipated girls soccer match between Unadilla Valley and Bainbridge-Guilford, the Lady Storm prevailed with a 3-1 victory Monday afternoon to avenge the early season loss UV suffered to the Bobcats in their home tournament.

Three unanswered goals by the Storm and a big day between the posts for Meegan White were keys in the win at home.

White came away with seven saves of the eight shots fired in her direction, allowing just one early one to sneak by. After the goal went into, White displayed stout goalkeeping skills to preserve the UV lead late in the contest.

The Bobcats struck first as Kate Roefs delivered a pass to colleague Elizabeth DuMond for the early 1-0 lead. However, that was the only offensive production for the visiting Bainbridge-Guilford team.

15 minutes after DuMond’s strike, the Storm’s Pyper Kneale sent the equalizer into the back of the net for the first of three by UV.

The two teams battled for possession for the remainder of the half and into the early minutes of the second. That was until 28:48 left in the game.

Unadilla Valley’s Isabella Potter found teammate Paige Catena on the run and the two connected for the Storm’s second goal of the match, giving the home team the 2-1 advantage.
