Marauders’ offensive pressure leads to 3-0 win at home

GREENE – The 10th Annual Greene Soccer Tournament featured four teams from Section IV, two being considered elites in the local area. Chenango Forks, one of the top teams of the section, captured the tournament title after defeating Dryden 4-3 in the championship game after overcoming a two goal deficit on Saturday at the home pitch of the Greene Trojans.

The tournament host Trojans fell to Dryden in the opening round by a final of 2-0, handing currently ranked No. 12 in the state Greene the first loss in 2019.

With the score at 0-0 following the intermission, Nolan Weik of the visiting Dryden team scored on a loose ball scrum in front of the net after teammate Casey Phillips served in the cross ball, setting up the scoring opportunity.

Holding the 1-0 lead, Dryden was able to add an insurance goal with only 2:03 left in the game. With an assist already attached to his name in the game, Phillips rewarded his own efforts by adding a goal to his stat line.
